Load a coloring page and pick the size it will print at. You'll get five independent findings — grayscale, ink ratio, line width, region density and effective resolution — each with its own pass / warning / review-required verdict. There is deliberately no single combined score.

Thresholds are conservative print-quality heuristics, not KDP rules — a "review required" result means look at that aspect yourself, not that KDP will reject the file. Analysis is browser-local; pixels are never uploaded and are discarded when the tab closes.

What the coloring page printability checker measures

  • Grayscale contamination — share of pixels that are neither black nor white.
  • Ink ratio — how much of the page is solid black.
  • Line width at print size — thinnest and typical stroke width in points, using your chosen physical size.
  • Region density — ink concentration per area, to catch uncolorably busy zones.
  • Effective resolution — pixels ÷ printed inches versus the 300 DPI recommendation.

Each finding stands alone with its own verdict so you can fix exactly what's weak — a page can have perfect resolution and still fail on hairline strokes.

Worked example

A 2550×3300 px page checked at 8.5" wide runs at 300 DPI (pass). If its thinnest strokes measure 0.3 pt, the line-width finding flags review: at that width, ink spread on paper can swallow the line. Thickening the artwork's line weight — or printing at 6"×9" instead — raises the effective stroke width and clears the finding.

Common mistakes

  • Checking at screen size instead of print size. The same pixels are thinner in ink the larger you print — always evaluate at the real trim.
  • Ignoring "invisible" gray. JPEG artifacts and soft brushes leave mid-tones you can't see at 25% zoom but the printer can.
  • Treating the page as one score. Fix the specific failing metric; don't average a weak line width against good density.
  • Assuming pass = approved. This grades artwork printability only.

Frequently asked questions

Why do thin lines disappear in print?
A stroke that looks fine on screen can be a fraction of a point wide at print size. Ink spread, paper texture and printer resolution eat into it — strokes under roughly half a point are at risk of fading or breaking. Check line width at the size you will actually print.
How much grayscale is acceptable in a coloring page?
Ideally none. Mid-gray pixels are rendered as halftone dot patterns that read as unwanted shading. Small antialiased fringes around lines are normal, but visible gray fills should be converted to pure black or removed.
Are solid black areas bad for coloring books?
Large fills are not a KDP violation, but they waste colorable space, can smear or offset in print, and increase ink density. Most coloring pages work better with outlined regions than solid fills.
Does a passing result guarantee KDP acceptance?
No. These are conservative print-quality heuristics for the artwork itself. KDP review covers many other factors — file structure, margins, content policy — which this tool does not judge.
